Overview
France, officially the French Republic, is a republic located in Western Europe. The name for the mainland is France Metropolitane. It is said that the Kingdom of France was established in July 987, but later historians named it that way for convenience. The king of France at that time was called the King of the Franks or the King of France, as he was the legitimate king of the Frankish kingdom that existed in medieval Europe. As proof of this, the history of successive kings is counted from the time of the Frankish kingdom.
