Overview
Dried fish woman (干物女, himono onna) is slang for a woman who is lazy about various things and is so occupied in the house that she rarely moves.
The phrase originally appeared in the manga Hotaru no Hikari by Satoru Hiura.
The phrase is said to express the image of "withering away like a dried fish" (干物のように枯れ果て) and "I just ruminate on the memories of when I was a fish as I chew dried fish" (干物を噛みしめるように魚であった頃の思い出を反芻するだけ, this may need a translation check).
It often refers to the state of being particularly troublesome in romantic relationships, but also includes other subjects such as fashion, makeup, and food.
Therefore, it is common for them to wear only jerseys and underwear in their loungewear.
Many of them work hard only at their jobs (so-called "workaholics").
