Overview
Gonzo K.K. (株式会社ゴンゾ, Kabushiki-gaisha Gonzo), or just Gonzo (ゴンゾ, Gonzo), is a Japanese anime production company. It was established in 1992 as an office led by Shouji Murahama, who became independent from Gainax, and other creators, including Shinji Higuchi and Mahiro Maeda, who are also Gainax alumni.
The company name comes from the Italian word for stupid, and was the brainchild of Higuchi.
In 1996, after the highly acclaimed event movie for the video game Lunar: The Silver Star produced at the request of Game Arts, the company began producing animation for video game events.
In 1998, the company embarked on full-scale production of works for television, film, and OVA works with the OVA Blue Submarine No. 6 produced in full digital format.
