Japanese clothing (和服) refers to Japanese traditional garments, also known as native clothing in Japan, or just kimonos. In recent years, it has also been referred to as the national dress of Japan.
Japanese clothing (和服, wafuku) can refer to Japanese garments or just the kimono. This term originated in the Meiji era as a term to describe Japanese clothing as opposed to Western clothing, or youfuku (洋服). The word kimono originally meant clothing in general.
