Mari Illustrious Makinami (真希波・マリ・イラストリアス, Makinami Mari Irasutoriasu) is a character not from the original Neon Genesis Evangelion show but made as a main character in the Rebuild of Evangelion series. She is an Evangelion pilot belonging to the NERV's European branch and is acquainted with Ryoji Kaji, who is also on assignment at the European branch. She is from England and is bilingual in English and Japanese, but seems more comfortable speaking Japanese.
