The Kawanishi N1K1-J Shiden (Known by the allies as the 'George') was the first land-based variant of the N1K. The Shiden was developed from the earlier N1K1 floatplane. The N1K1-J suffered from its ancestor's mid-wing design, leading to an unstable landing gear system. The N1K1-J would see action in Formosa, the Philippines and in the defense of the home islands.
