Overview

Primary colors (黄色/げんしょく, genshoku) are often combinations of three colors.

The three primary colors in additive color mixing, in which light of different colors is superimposed to create a new color, are usually red, green, and blue (RGB).

In subtractive color mixing, which is used when mixing paints or juxtaposing colored inks in color printing, these three primary colors are cyan, magenta, and yellow (CYMK).

A color scheme that is so gaudy that its combination strongly stimulates the human sense of sight is also called a primary color.
