Overview

Scott Pilgrim (スコット・ピルグリム, Sukotto Pirugurimu) is a coming-of-age drama set in Toronto, Canada.

While based on the daily lives of the main characters, the the series features a unique setting that mixes elements of music (rock and roll) and action (kung fu) with the realism of video games (especially so-called retro games, such as the NES).

The author, Brian Lee O'Malley, has said that he grew up with Japanese manga and video games, and influences and parodies can be seen throughout.

He also says that the framework of the story was inspired by the manga Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga by Koji Aihara and Kentaro Takekuma.
