Sharekowa (洒落怖, Sharekowa) is the abbreviation of a 2000s-era 2channel thread titled How about a collection of not so funny stories that will scare you to death? (「死ぬ程洒落にならない怖い話を集めてみない？」, shinu hodo share ni naranai kowai hanashi o atsumeteminai?), please note that this is a rough translation.

The purpose of the thread was to collect many "stories that are so scary it isn't funny/that they will kill you", regardless of genre or authenticity, such as actual experiences, hearsay, legends, creations, historical facts, news, etc. It gradually became a creative ghost story thread.
