Overview
The Pokémon Company (株式会社ポケモン, Kabushiki Gaisha Pokémon), as the name suggests, the company manages the copyrights for the Pokémon series.
The company was established on April 23, 1998, with a 32% investment by Nintendo, the initial publisher and distributor of the series, together with Game Freak and Creatures, the developers. Initially, the company was called "Pokémon Center," which was involved in the operation of Pokémon Centers in various regions, but as the Pokémon market became huge, copyright management became more and more complicated, and even Nintendo was no longer able to handle the situation. In 2000, Satoshi Iwata, who had moved to Nintendo, took the lead in coordinating the relationship with Nintendo of America, Nintendo, Creatures, Game Freak, TV Tokyo, JR East, Shogakukan, etc., and consolidated the copyright management operations.
