Overview
Game Freak (ゲームフリーク, Gēmu Furīku) is a Japanese video game development company. The company is best known as the developer of the famous Pokémon series.
It was originally a game-related doujin magazine circle organized by Satoshi Tajiri, and Ken Sugimori and Junichi Masuda were members from that time. The company became a game production company after the release of the independently produced game Mendel Palace.
It should be noted that this is one of the few cases in the Japanese home video game industry where a doujin circle released software produced in its own development environment as commercial software through a legitimate manufacturer.
Before developing Pokémon, they had developed Mario & Yoshi and Mario & Wario as a subcontractor for Nintendo.
In addition to Nintendo hardware, they also developed Magical Taruruto and Pulseman for Sega's Mega Drive/Sega Genesis at the time.
