Overview
Windows 9x is an operating system that integrates MS-DOS and Windows. It is also called 9x series OS.
Features
The 9x series is considered for general home use and is strong in multimedia such as videos and PC games.
Since the kernel contains 16-bit code, it is prone to freezes, crashes, and blue screens due to lack of system resources, and stability is not good.
In particular, the final version, Windows Me, is particularly unstable compared to other OSes because it was made multifunctional while inheriting this problem.
The End of the Line
Although the 9x series sold explosively at first, as PC performance and ease-of-use of Windows NT improved, it could no longer keep up, and with the release of Windows XP in 2001, the home OS also became NT-based, and development of the 9x series ended completely.
