Overview
Actors (役者, yakusha), in ancient times in Japan, the term was used to refer to a person who played a special role in a Shinto ritual, which was then turned into the performing arts.
It is also a convenient term that can roughly encompass actors, actresses, voice actors, theater troupes, and suit actors.
