Overview
An Organism (生物) is something that is alive, such as an animal, human or plant. The exact definition of "having life" is difficult, but common characteristics include being composed of one or many cells, having the ability to propagate, maintaining homeostasis, and "the ability to convert energy.
As a pixiv tag, it covers a wide range of organisms, from real organisms in general, such as animals and plants, to UMAs, fantasy species, and creatures that we don't know what they are.
Classification of Living Things
Since ancient times, living things have been broadly classified into animals and plants.
Later, with the discovery of microorganisms and their cellular structures, five groups were established: animals, plants, fungi, protist, and monera (prokaryote).
Currently, phylogenetic analysis has led to a higher level of classification, dividing them into three groups: eukaryote (including animals, plants, fungi, etc.), archaea (archaea, archaea), and bacteria.
Viruses are not generally included in living organisms because they are not composed of cells and do not have metabolic capabilities on their own, but they acquire the ability to multiply and metabolize by infecting cells.
Inconsistencies in the Names of Organisms
On pixiv, there is basically no standardized notation for organism names.
In Japanese biology, the name of an organism is usually written in hiragana, katakana, kanji, or an alias.
In addition, the Latin scientific name system proposed by Linnaeus is used as the universal scientific name for species and taxonomic groups. For example, the scientific name of the current human species is homo sapiens.
