Overview
Bocchi the Rock! (ぼっち・ざ・ろっく!, 'Bocchi za Rock!') is a manga work written by Aki Hamaji. It began serialisation in Manga Time Kirara MAX, a four-panel manga magazine published by Houbunsha, from March 2018 (May edition).
This four-panel manga work focuses on the band life of a girl "Hitori Gotoh" (nicknamed "Bocchi-chan"), who yearns to be in a band but is terribly shy, and her band members.
It is abbreviated as "BTR", "ぼざろ" (Bozaro).
Although it is a work with a band theme, due to the nature of Manga Time Kirara, there are relatively fewer depictions of the band itself, but rather a lot of interaction between the characters and their growth. As can be seen from the protagonist's nickname 'Bocchi-chan' (bocchi, "aloneness” or “isolated" in Japanese), she is extremely shy, and her self-deprecating jokes and suspicious behaviour are Bocchi-chan's signature style.
A TV anime adaptation has been produced by CloverWorks.
