Overview
Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie is originally a 1996 two-part OVA titled Sonic the Hedgehog (ソニック★ザ★ヘッジホッグ Sonikku za Hejjihoggu), The Movie title comes from its direct-to-video English release where the whole thing was put into a single film. It is based on Sonic CD. However, Amy Rose does not appear, but an original character. The setting of this work is a place called Land of the Sky outside of the double-structured Planet Freedom.
It has been released on DVD overseas, but in Japan it is only available on video and on the Bandai Channel.
Since it was produced in Japan, it can be considered a precursor to the later anime series, Sonic X.
