Overview
Christmas (クリスマス, Kurisumasu) is defined as the period from sunset on December 24 to sunset on December 25. The part of this period that belongs to December 24 is Christmas Eve. Incidentally, sunset is around 16:30 in Tokyo at this time of year. In Christianity, it is a holiday to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.
However, since the Eastern Orthodox Church uses the Julian calendar, it is celebrated on December 24 to December 25 of the Julian calendar and January 6 to January 7 of the Gregorian calendar (as of 2015. This difference often widens slightly).
