A general term for fairies of Scandinavian origin. The word comes from the Norse mythology "Aalv", which was a beautiful and powerful fairy.
It is said that there are "light elves" and "dark elves", the latter being the archetype of the dark elf image.
As this word spread to other regions, interpretations that confused it with dwarves and goblins were born, and in some cases people came to imagine it as something like an old man or, in some cases, a chimirō.
