The F/A-18C Hornet is the third variant of the F/A-18 built by McDonnell Douglas. It entered service in 1987 with the US Navy and USMC and first saw action in 1991 during the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm). The US Navy retired the F/A-18C family in 2018.
Notable features that distinguish the F/A-18C from the F/A-18A include additional avionics bulges on the front and mid section of the aircraft.
The F/A-18C was featured in the 1996 film Independence Day, along with the USMC squadron VMFA-314.
