Overview
Fantasy Zone (ファンタジーゾーン, Fantajī Zōn) is an atypical side-scrolling shooter game created by Sega and the title of the first game from 1986 for arcades and other platforms later on. The game popularized the use of a boss rush in games as helped create the cute 'em up subgenre.
Gameplay
Fantasy Zone is characterized by strategic progression based on left and right arbitrary scrolling (a system that does not exist in many other games except this series, so to speak) and shopping where weapons can be bought on the store screen between stages.
It is a very unique game compared to today's shoot 'em ups, with various features other than the system as follows:
- Fantastic pastel backgrounds
- Fancy characters
- Stage name display
- Display of song titles (late boards)
- Boss appearance stage design
- Boss rush in the final stage
