Kai Tak International Airport, officially known as Hong Kong International Airport until 1998; was the International Airport of British Hong Kong and the Hong Kong SAR until July 1998 when Chep Lap Kok International Airport opened on 6 July 1998.
The airport was known for it's Runway 13 approach over the cities, this becoming a common theme in portraying Hong Kong in fiction. Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair had their main hubs at Kai Tak until moving to Chep Lap Kok when the former closed.
