Character Introduction Matikanefukukitaru
Overview
"Oho,what's this I see?Today's divination:great fortune!☆"
Matikanefukukitaru is a Uma Musume, based on the real japanese racehorse "Matikanefukukitaru" (1996 - 2000).
She is a umamusume who likes fortune-telling and good luck items. Her racing uniform is full of lucky charms and fortune-telling goods. She has absolutely no confidence in her own abilities and considers all good results to be the result of good luck.
She runs a fortune teller in the school, and in the TV anime, we see various girls coming to her for advice.Somehow,Meisho Doto is an assistant there.
Her family's home is a shrine. She especially worships Siraoki-Sama.Shieaoki-sama seems to be a supernatural being and occasionally borrows Matikanefukukitaru form to appear.
She had a talented older sister with a promising future, but the sister died prematurely. Her lack of confidence comes from the fact that she compares herself to such a talented older sister.
In the Ritto Dormitory, her roommate is Matikanetannhauser. They are both very noisy and frequently complain about Air Shakur living next door.

Matikanefukukitaru was the winner of the 1997 Kikuka-shō(Japanese St. Leger).
”Matikane(or Machikane)” is crown name(冠名 Kanmurimei) of horse owner Masuo Hosokawa(President of Hosokawa Micron Corporation).
The horse's name comes from a proverb “Warau kado niwa fuku kitaru(笑う門には福来たる)”, meaning “Good fortune and happiness will come to the home of those who smile.”
There is also a horse named “Machikanewaraukado” in the same generation. The names of the two horses were chosen from a public contest.
The crystal that Matikanefukukitaru(umamusume) carries is named after his father, “Crystal Glitters."
His great grandmother's grandmother is Shiraoki.
Shiraoki was a mare who ran well, finishing second in the 1949 Japan Derby.
From her mares (Shiraoki-line), excellent horses have been born one after another.
At Umamusume, in addition to Matikanefukukitaru, Special Week and Vodka are also by Shiraoki-line horses.
Matikanefukukitaru's full-brother was very talented and had a promising future, but he died early without making his debut. He was not as promising as his brother. His form was high necked, temperamental and weak hoofed.
These problems nearly caused him to run off in the third turn in his debut race, and after his second race he had to be rested due to a cleft hoof.
Matikanefukukitaru changed drastically in the fall of his third year. In the “Kobe Shinbun Hai,” he used his powerful legs to pass Silence Suzuka, who was sure to run away with the race and win. He also won the following “Kyoto Shinbun Hai” and won the Kikuka-shō trial race in succession.
Kobe Shinbun Hai.Matikanefukukitaru is No.4
And in the Kikuka-shō, he left all the other horses behind with a race of a different dimension as he entered the final straight and took the honor of the Classic Horse of the Year.
Kikuka-shō.Matikanefukukitaru is No.4
After the race, however, he developed a hoof crack again. From then on, he became afraid of leg pain.
He remained active until 2000, but never won a race, as if the horse had changed.
Some people still consider Matikanefukukitaru to have been arguably Japan's strongest horse in only three races in the fall of his 3-year-old season.
After retiring from active racing, he became a stallion, but he was not popular either for his pedigree or his race record, and he had only 29 foals.
After retiring as a stallion, he spent the rest of his life at the “Kosuda Bokujo” with his senior, Matikanetannhauser. It is said that when he tried to mess with Tannhauser, he was always treated lightly. (However, it is said that Tannhauser would have been offended if he had made a move on him while they were eating.)
His once wild temperament became more mature, and he lived out the rest of his life with the love of the local people.
Hiyori Nitta, the voice actress in charge of Umamusume, once went to see Matikanefukukitaru.
On July 31, 2020, at the age of 26, he left his stable and lay down on the grass, and passed away as if asleep.
