Overview
Nickelodeon (ニコロデオン) is an affiliate of Viacom, one of the American media groups. Its "siblings" include Paramount Pictures.
The station opened in 1977 under the name Pinwheel and changed its name to the current Nickelodeon in 1979.
Nick came to Japan and other Asian countries in 1998. However, due to low viewership in the Japanese domestic market (due to the popularity of anime), Nick withdrawn their CS channel in 2009. They returned in 2018, but failed again in 2022 due to the same reason. Because of this, Nick shows in Japan are aired in Japanese domestic channels like Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK). Nick's rivals Cartoon Network & Disney are more popular in the Japanese market.
