Overview

Sukiyaki (鋤焼, more commonly すき焼き) is a Japanese dish is made by grilling (Kansai style) or boiling (Kanto style) beef in a sweet and spicy seasoning based on sugar and soy sauce. It is an easy-to-prepare yet luxurious winter treat.

The most well-known method of cooking beef is to place the ingredients in a pot with oil and simmer them in a broth made from the water from the vegetables and the warishita (soy sauce) added to the pot, a unique process different from other nabemono cuisine.
