Overview
Japanese food (和食, washoku) excludes dishes with strong elements derived from foreign cuisines, such as Western food and ramen. However, teppanyaki dishes such as okonomiyaki and yakisoba, which are unique to Japan, are often not included in Japanese cuisine.
Outside of Japan, Japanese food derived from Edo cuisine, such as sushi, tempura, soba, and oden, is well known.
Home-style dishes include miso soup, grilled fish, nitsuke, and nabemono dishes.
