Overview
Analog (アナログ, anarogu) originally meant similarity or likeness.
For example, to describe the height of Moomin Troll as "as tall as a telephone directory" is analogous, while to describe it as "30 cm" is digital.
It is also a counting-type computer is called a digital computer, whereas a weighing-type computer that performs calculations using physical quantities as continuous quantities is called an analog computer.
The term "analog" is thought to have come to be used to mean "handwritten" in painting because the term "digital" came to be used to describe painting with a computer, and analog was applied as a synonym for the term.
