Overview
Home video game console (家庭用ゲーム機, katei-yō gēmu-ki) refers to a game console that is connected to a TV to play video games, but hardware that is not connected to a TV, such as the Vectrex and Virtual Boy, can also be classified as a home console.
It may be more accurate to think of a handheld game console as one that is held in the hand when playing games, and a console that is placed on a desk or the floor while playing as a home console.
In Japanese, the term home video game console refers to both stationary and portable video game consoles.
In English, however, the term home video game console refers only to stationary video game consoles.
In Japan, handheld video game consoles have a larger player population, but in the United States, home consoles have a larger player population.
