2

A uniform swimsuit used in Japanese schools for educational swimming activities.

Overview

A school swimsuit (スク水 sukumizu) (swimsuits for young people) is a uniform swimsuit used in Japanese schools, worn by youths and children in physical education from elementary and high school, as well as swimming classes.

The Japanese name is a portmanteau of Suku "スク" and Mizu "水." Suku is an abbreviated short for "school," while Mizu is a word meaning "water."

As the swimsuit were made for educational purposes, they often have plain and modest designs with little exposure and tailored specifically to be durable, but recent years saw a number of ornamental types appear.

School swimsuits are generally colored navy blue, blue, or black, but various colors such as red, dark red, and green also exist. In recent years, numerous models had been partially or completely colored orage, for safety reasons.
