Overview
The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II (informally known as the Warthog) is an Attack Aircraft of the USAF. Originally rejected by the USAF, the A-10 eventually proved it's self in combat a mere months before it was slated to be retired in the Gulf War. As a result of this, the A-10 was not retired by the US and kept in service.
The A-10 was also used in Operation Southern Watch, Operation Allied Force, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (US-led Invasion of Iraq). The US plans to replace the A-10 with the F-35 Lighting II.
