Based on the aspect of infection, there are believed to be multiple strains.
First discovered in Wuhan, People's Republic of China, at the end of 2019 and officially named COVID-19 by WHO on February 12, 2020.
The Japanese term of this, being Coronavirus Disease 2019 (コロナウイルス感染症2019, koronauirusu kansenshō nisenjūkyū), combines the English name of the coronavirus infection with the year of the Gregorian calendar.
