Denji (デンジ, Denji) is the protagonist of the Chainsaw Man series.
Background
Denji started as a boy who worked as a non-regular devil hunter to pay off the debts of his father.
When he was being pressed by the yakuza to "pay back the money or pay with his life" for a debt left by his father who died when he was young, he meets Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil who was injured, and gives him blood to save him. At the same time, Pochita also makes a deal to help Denji and chooses to become a devil hunter to pay off his debt.
However, he was tied up in a large debt left by his parents (taken as repayment from where he earned his money), sold off his own organs, and lived in extreme poverty, unable to afford even a meal for the day, even after exterminating demons and working part-time.
He sometimes told Pochita about his modest dreams: "I want to eat bread with jam on it.", and "I want to hold a woman before I die.".
One day, he was murdered by yakuza who had contracted with Zombie Devil, but Pochita became his heart and regenerated Denji's body.

He has dull blond hair, gnarled teeth, and orange eyes. He is quite expressive and often shows his disheveled face in front of women such as Makima, Himeno, and Reze.
He was wearing an eye patch in the first episode and chapter because he sold his right eye, but after becoming one with Pochita, he removed the patch as part of his restoration.
