Overview
Meshiuma (メシウマ, meshiuma) is a slang originated from the 2channel BBS, where it is usually used in almost every news site. It's a shorten version of under the auspices of others' misfortune, today is another day where my meals taste great (他人の不幸で今日も飯がうまい, tanin no fukō de kyō mo meshi ga umai )
The origin of this slang came from the full word 巨人が負けて今日も飯がうまい (Kyojin ga makete kyou mo meshi ga umai), found at the baseball board, where the anti-Giants (Giants is one of Japan's national baseball team) made a remark over their satisfaction of seeing the team lost to their favorite team. Since then the sentence spread - and in turn, shortened to what it is today.
This word is also used recently at Nyusoku (Internet news flash site, see the link for details) where haters or antis usually expressed their satisfaction over the lost or misfortune of a certain group or organization. Usually seen when their most hated game consoles or games made losses more than profits. Meshiuma is also used with ASCII Art.
Aside from meshiuma, There is also meshimazu, a counter-meme for meshiuma which it means Taking pleasure over people one's fortune/good luck, this phrase is rarely used.
Please refrain from applying meshiuma in real life conversations as it is rude and unsightly
