Overview
Pocky & Rocky, known in Japan as Kiki Kaikai (奇々怪界, lit. "Mysterious Ghost World"), is a scrolling shooting action game series in which you can play the as the miko (shrine maiden) Pocky (Sayo-chan) and the tanuki Rocky (Manuke).
The first game, an arcade game and later other platforms released only in Japan have you only playing as Sayo-chan as she goes to the rescue the captive Seven Lucky Gods.
The game was first released in 1986 and became very popular, becoming one of Taito's most popular action games, and the main character, Sayo-chan, also became one of Taito's signature characters.
After the arcade version, the platform was shifted to home hardware, and different developers created games with different tastes.
After the release of the GBA version produced by Altron in 2001, production of new titles ceased, and this title is effectively the last one to be produced (A PS2 version was announced, but development was later cancelled).
On May 20, NA PUBLISHING announced the official release of the action shooting game Kiki Kaikai: Kuro Manto no Nazo (奇々怪界 黒マントの謎), with the English version titled as Pocky & Rocky Reshrined.
This has been the first sequel to Pocky & Rocky from the Super NES in 29 years.
