Overview
Sega (セガ, Sega), sometimes in all caps as SEGA, is a Japanese general entertainment business group that develops, manufactures, and markets arcade game machines, home video game software, and toys.
The company name is derived from the first two letters of Service and Games.
History
Established in 1960 (strictly speaking, there are two original series that lead to the current Sega, and there are several cases where the year of establishment differs in light of multiple acquisitions of other companies, but Sega officially treats 1960 as the year of establishment when it became a Japanese company), it was originally an independent Japanese branch of Service Games, which sold jukeboxes and slots, and changed its name to Sega Enterprises when it merged with Rosen Enterprises.
For many years, the headquarters and flagship branch were located in Otorii, Haneda, where the company was founded.
