Tencent (テンセント) is an investment holding company based in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China, that provides value-added services and online advertising services. Through its Internet-related subsidiaries, the company provides social networking services, instant messenger, and web hosting services.
It is one of the largest gaming companies in the world by revenue, had the world's highest app revenue in 2017, and is a major shareholder in other gaming companies such as Activision Blizzard and Ubisoft. Its founder, Ma Huateng, is also the richest man in Asia and was once the largest company in Asia by market capitalization; in 2017, it became the first Asian company to surpass $500 billion, surpassing Facebook and joining the world's five largest companies in the world. Of these, it has a cross-licensing partnership with Google.
