The Golf-class were a class of diesel-electric ballistic missile submarines that were operated by the Soviet Navy between 1958 and 1990. Several were also operated by the PLAN in the PRC.
After being retired, 10 of the former Soviet subs were sold to North Korea for scrap in 1993, with the North Koreas allegedly having rebuilt them recently. One Golf-class (K-129) was lost in March 1968 the Central Pacific near Hawaii and was later partially recovered by the CIA in 1974.
