Overview

IDW Sonic (IDWソニック IDW Sonikku) refers to the ongoing American comic book series based on the Sonic the Hedgehog game series published by IDW Publishing and licensed by Sega. It was publish on April 4, 2018.

History

The American comic of the same title, published by Archie Comics from 1993 to 2017, was discontinued for various reasons, and the IDW series began in 2018 as a replacement.

While Archie Sonic was a work with various original elements in a different world from the game, this work is set after the game Sonic Forces and depicts the activities of Sonic and his friends.

Since the reboot with a new publisher, Sonic Team's character supervision has become stronger, and the long-awaited Japanese translation has been published since 2020. The Japanese translation is being handled by Y's Publishing.

As of September 2022, 53 issues of the main series, 3 spin-offs consisting of 4 issues, and various other complete short stories have been published in Japan.

In Japan, the Japanese translation of volume 6, which contains issues 21-24, was released in August.
