Kaigaku was a student of the former thunder breathing Hashira Jigoro Kuwajima alongside Zenitsu Agatsuma. Eventually he left and became a demon which caused Jigoro to commit suicide by seppuku to atone for what his student has done. Kaigaku never really mastered all of Thunder breathing, having never really mastered its first form of breathing.
