Nice Nature is a Uma Musume, based on the real japanese racehorse "Nice Nature" (1990 - 1996).

Nature is a calm woman, perhaps because she grew up surrounded by adults in a downtown shopping district. She is a friendly person with a mysterious way of speaking. She is confident in her ability to discern what is for sale.

When the subject of horse racing comes up, she tends to be a bit reserved, always taking precautions. She has a deep-seated tendency to treat herself as a minor player, and even when she occasionally shows enthusiasm, she quickly brushes it off.

Nice Nature was a racehorse that debuted in 1990. In terms of classic races, he was of the 1991 generation.

His father "Nice Dancer" is a Broodmare sire of Tokai Teio.

He continued to run in G1 races and pattern race for a long time, until 1996, and even though he did not win, he continued to fight well.

He was a popular figure who was loved by people who called him “Mr. Sanchaku(=3rd Place)” or “Bronze Collector". This was due to the fact that his third-place finish in the G1 Arima Kinen was particularly impressive, as he was the only horse in history to achieve the rare record of finishing third three years in a row (1991-1993).

In 1999, JRA introduced the “Quinella Place” (aka “Wide”), a ticket to guess the first two horses to finish third. The poster featured Nice Nature holding a piece of paper with the word “ワイド(Wide)” in his mouth.

Many parody illustrations of Uma Musume based on this poster have been posted on Pixiv.

In the “100 Greatest Horses of the 20th Century,” a poll of horse racing fans, he was ranked 71st, despite the fact that he had never won a G1 race.

Other than Nice Nature, Twin Turbo was the only other horse selected that had not won a G1 race. This shows that he was very much loved by horse racing fans.

After retiring from active racing, he spent the rest of his life at “Watanabe Farm,” his birthplace, with his mother Urakawamiyuki, his sons Saint Nature and Nice Gold, and his close friends Saint Missile and Meteor Shower.

Eventually, he became the “Foster Horse” and public relations director of the NPO “Retired Horse Association,” and he also became popular as a long-lived horse.

In 2017 (at the age of 29), an initiative titled “Nice Nature Birthday Donation” began to collect donations to support retired horses for a limited period of one month from April 16, his birthday.

Initially, the project itself was not well known, and total donations for the first year amounted to 198,500 yen against a goal of 500,000 yen.

However, after the animation “Uma Musume: Pretty Derby” was broadcast in 2018, the project gradually began to attract attention, and the amount of donations gradually increased.

Then, when the anime “Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 2” began airing on January 5, 2021, and the activities of Uma Musume's Nice Nature were seen in action, it became widely known that Nice Nature was still alive, and that the retired horse support program itself was still active.

The anime reached its final episode on March 30, while the Uma Musume app game began operation on February 24.

While the excitement was still high, the “Nice Nature Birthday Donation” on April 16, 2021 (age 33) raised a whopping 35,829,730 yen.

In the following year, 2022 (age 34), the donation increased further to 54,127,293 yen.

In 2023, his 35th birthday, he was in poor health, and fans wishing him long life donated more than usual, raising 74,022,066 yen in one month.

Then, on May 30, 2023, about two weeks after the donation was completed, Nice Nature left for heaven.

The “Nice Nature Birthday Donation” has been renamed the “Nice Nature Memorial Donation”, and donations raised in his name continue to save the lives of many retired horses.
