VFA-192 Golden Dragons is a US Navy Strike Fighter squadron that succeeded VA-192. The squadron in 1986 had transitioned to the F/A-18A Hornet and thus had changed from an Attack Squadron to a Strike Fighter squadron before joining CVW-5 along with VFA-195.
In 1991, VFA-192 along with the rest of CVW-5 onboard the USS Midway CV-41 took part in the 1991 Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm). In August, they swapped out their F/A-18As for F/A-18Cs while also moving to the USS Independence CV-62.
In 1998, the squadron swapped out it's F/A-18Cs for the F/A-18C (N) Night Attack Hornet, with the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 replacing the Independence. In 2008, the squadron moved to the USS George Washington CVN-73. The following year, it moved back to the US, leaving CVW-5 and Japan.
