The USS Midway CV-41 was an Aircraft Carrier of the US Navy that saw service between 1945 and 1992. It saw action during the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the 1976 Korean crisis, the Iran-Iraq War and finally as the Flagship of US Persian Gulf Naval Forces in the 1991 Gulf War. In August, the USS Independence CV-62 replaced the Midway as the forward-deployed carrier of the US 7th Fleet. After returning to the US, Midway was retired in 1992, becoming a museum in San Diego. Midway was also the first US carrier to be forward deployed in Japan.
