VFA-195 Dambusters is a US Navy Strike Fighter squadron that was succeeded VA-195. The squadron in 1986 had transitioned to the F/A-18A Hornet and thus had changed from an Attack Squadron to a Strike Fighter squadron. The squadron was originally to be assigned to CVW-10 but instead moved to NAF Atusgi in Japan to join CVW-5.
In 1991, VFA-195 along with the rest of CVW-5 onboard the USS Midway CV-41 took part in the 1991 Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm). The squadron would drop the most bombs in the Air Wing and be the first Hornet and CVW-5 squadron to deploy the TV-guided Walleye Bomb in combat. In August 1991, VFA-195 swapped out their F/A-18As for F/A-18C, moving to the USS Independence CV-62.
In 1998, the squadron swapped out it's F/A-18Cs for the F/A-18C (N) Night Attack Hornet, with the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 replacing the Independence. The squadron currently flies the F/A-18E Super Hornet.
The squadron's nickname is 'Chippy'.
