VA-115 Eagles was an Attack squadron of the US Navy that existed between 15 July 1948 and 30 September 1996.
History
VA-115 was originally designated VT-11 between 1942 and 1948. Between September 1973 and July 1996, VA-115 was forward deployed to NAF Atsugi and became the first of only two A-6 Intruders to be based in Japan. Between the 1950s and 1979, the squadron's nickname was Arabs but was changed to Eagles in 1979.
In 1991, VA-115 took part in the Gulf War along with VA-185 Nighthawks (another Intruder squadron based in Japan) and the rest of CVW-5 onboard the USS Midway CV-41.
After moving back to the United States in July 1996, the Eagles became a strike fighter flying the F/A-18C known as VFA-115. In 2009, VFA-115 returned to Japan. In July 2024, VFA-115 left Japan again to transition to the F-35C.
