CVW-5

Carrier Air Wing 5 (CVW-5) is an Air Wing of the US Navy's Pacific Fleet. It has been the US Navy's only forward deployed Air Wing since 1973, being based originally at NAF Atsugi until moving to MCAS Iwakuni in 2017. CVW-5 took part in the Vietnam War, 1976 Korean crisis, the Iran-Iraq War, Operation Desert Shield, the 1991 Gulf War, Operation Southern Watch, the 1996 Taiwan Strait Crisis, the 2001 Afghan conflict and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
