Overview
Big Man, known in Japan as Mantaro (マンタロー, Mantarō) is an idol of Deep Cut in Splatoon 3. Seeing how the other members take cues from real places and their cultures, Big Man's influence most likely comes from Brazilian culture.
Appearance
As his name suggest, he is a big dark-gray manta ray. The front of his body are white polka dot-like markings along the pectoral fins while the middle of his body is a white line. He stands on his cephalic fins making them like feet. His mouth stays open while the black pupils of his eyes are slanted (most likely closed?).
His red and white headdress where a regular manta ray's eyes and cephalic fins would be. It is tied to his head with a red rope between his eyes and mouth. His appearance of the tied headdress is that of like Nakamura Jirokichi tying his hokkamuri around his nose.
Etymology
His English name Big Man, most likely comes from big to mean his size and man, the first three letters of manta ray.
Japanese name Mantaro (マンタロー, Mantarō) is a compound of manta (マンタ, manda) as in manta ray and the given masculine name suffix Taro (太郎, Tarō).
"Ay! Ay!" is his how he speaks in English, most likely coming from a sound of a sea animal. Ei ei (エイエイ) is the Japanese one probably coming from phonetic clipping of ray (えい, ei) and the way of exerting force. Oddly, when it comes to Portuguese, he speaks like everyone else and has no need of a translator.
