Shiver or Fuuka (フウカ, Fūka), as she is known in Japan is an idol in Splatoon 3 and one of the members of Deep Cut.
She is an Octoling that speaks in a Kansai-ben dialect in the Japanese version. She is also descends from a lineage of shark trainers.
She is Octoling with pale skin, short blue hair with a twisted headband (designed like a shimenawa rope) and twinkling red eyes with light red infinity symbol pupils (like octopuses in real life). Shiver's hair color also matches with her triangular eyebrows. Her hair covers her left eye without the mask-like black marking other Octolings have but does have red eye makeup below her eyes. She also has sharp teeth and rounded ears with shark tooth-shaped earrings on the right. Both the ears and fingers are red-tinted.
Her outfit consist of white sarashi top under a transparent purple shawl with a large silver octopus head charm with red tassels hanging from it. Her black leggings has two cuts at the right side contrasting the holes of the left side of Frye's pants. She also wears black thong shoes with red wedge soles.
In certain circumstances she wears a shark mask, alluding to a real-world kitsune mask.

As mentioned above, Shiver is an Octoling, but she has 10 tentacles, the same number as a squid.
Some fans believe she is half octopus and half squid. It is also expected that she is not half octopus and half squid.
Others believe that she is not half-octopus, but a bat octopus model with a similar shape, or that she has one of her eight tentacles cut into a slit to make it look like she has ten tentacles.
Shiver's gender was a point of discussion due to the Splatoon 3 Direct nor the promotional material never referring to it, this was consistent across all languages. The other Deep Cut members though were stated where they not refer to Shiver in ways that would require inflecting adjectives, verbs, titles for a gender used common with those words. In Japan, Shiver gave herself the pronouns uchi (うち) and onore (おのれ) adding more conflicting info. While uchi is an informal pronoun usually used by younger women, especially in Kansai dialects, onore is an archaic pronoun usually used by men. The pronouns are like this to most likely portray Shiver's Kansai dialect with yakuwarigo (role language).
Noted Nintendo Portugal was the only social media account stating her gender as pela (female). During speculation some believe her being being non-binary, ambiguously gendered, or for Japan, an otokonoko. It wasn't till interviews with Nintendo of America executives saying she identifies as female with she/her pronouns. If she was non-binary that would have made her the first non-binary Nintendo character. For being ambiguously gendered, some might see Mach Rider or Sheik as ambiguous, but overall is most likely would have not been a first for Nintendo in that regard.
Shiver is her name in English, coming from the act of shivering from fear or in cold contrasting Frye's name of warmth. It is also a collective terms for a group of sharks
Her Japanese name Fuuka (フウカ, Fūka) is a feminine given name and the word for shark (鱶, fuka).
