Overview

Finn (フィン, Fin), full name name Finn Mertens (フィン・マーテンス), is a boy living on the Land of Ooo. He spends his days adventuring with his brother who is a dog, Jake, who uses special powers. In addition to swordsmanship, he has mastered the basics of magic. He is the core of the story and holds many mysteries.

He lives in a treehouse in a green field in the center of the Ooo. He lives there with Jake and BMO.

By the way, he is ambidextrous. In the Japanese version of the character introduction, he is described as left-handed.

Appearance

Finn wears a light blue shirt and dark blue shorts. He Also has a green backpack and black shoes. Later in the show he loses his right arm and replaced it with a robotic one. In the last episode he seem to leave his prosthetic arm behind.

Hat

He has a cap with bear-like ears. In Fionna's version, it is decorated like a rabbit. Under the cap, he has blonde hair, his hair have been shaved, short, or long.

Personality

He is mischievous, curious, and adventurous.

At an impressionable age, he talks about "being brave" and "his own righteousness," but at the same time, he faces various conflicts in his relationships and his own problems. He is also immature, addicted to love, and running amok trying to make women think well of him.

When he was a baby, he pooped on a leaf and fell down, causing his back to stick to the leaf, and a passing parent and child turned a blind eye (he was later picked up by Jake's parents), which led him to never abandon anyone in need, no matter how small.

He has a habit of gnawing on everything and is missing some teeth.

The Last in Humanity

It is mentioned throughout the show that Finn is the last human being.

Characters who appear to be human, such as Susan, Lincoln from Mars, and the prisoner in the Gut Grinder prison, appear frequently, but it is unclear whether they are human-like creatures or human beings.

A man observing the Land of Ooo from a monitor says, "The five-fingered creatures are extinct".

Later, a community of humans is discovered, and Finn is revealed to not be the "last human on the Land of Ooo".

Incidentally, Jake's parents, who picked up Finn when he was an orphan, thought he was a type of "mudfish," a fish that walks on the ground, when they first saw him.

In the episode "The Comet" (彗星とフィン, Suisei to Fin, lit. "Comet and Finn"), the Catalyst Comet told Finn was a child reincarnated from a comet far out in space.

Swords

Throughout out the show, Finn's choice of sword changes once the other one is gone.

Scarlet

A battered and decayed sword. It is Finn's initial equipment as one of the proofs of a brave man.

The sword sometimes becomes shiny with a coating, but in the next episode, it is back to its usual tattered state.

Later, it was transformed into a four-dimensional sword by the bubble creator created by Finn, who suddenly became a genius.

4-D version

A black 4-D sword created by the bubble creator. It cut through the black hole created by the bubble creator machine and exploded.

Root Sword

A sword with a handle like a tree root. Obtained in a train car. It was later revealed that it was a surprise party from Jake and this sword was one of the gifts from Jake.

Steel Sword

A silver sword with a narrow eye on the handle that Finn equipped in the cursed arena.

In Season 6, Finn's arm was restored to normal, and he used this sword to fight against Darren who invaded the Candy Kingdom.

Demon Blood Sword

A sword made of blood drained from a demon, Kee-Oth, and holy water prepared by Finn and Jake's father, Joshua. Jake's father took it from Kee-Oth. Since then, Joshua has been drinking holy water every day to avoid being cursed.

This is the main weapon from the latter half of the show, and Finn often wears this sword in the commercials.

On the handle of the sword, there is a spell to summon the devil hidden in a bandage.

Later, when Ice King was living in Finn's house for some reason, he inadvertently broke the demon's seal, and Finn had to break the sword to save Jake, who was kidnapped by the demon. After it was broken, he was forced to use it until he could get his hands on a grass sword.

Grass Sword

A cursed sword sold by a Grassy Wizard at the flea market. It is as flexible as grass, but has excellent sharpness.

The Fear Feaster in Finn's belly was also cut down with this sword.

After accepting the curse, the sword usually wraps around Finn's arm, and when necessary, it becomes a sword and extends.

The sword can be easily broken or torn, but it can be restored in a short time.

In an emergency, the sword can fuse with the arm itself and become a giant vine, but the vine's arm could not bear the weight of the pull, and the arm was cut off (the Japanese version of the show does not show the cutting off), and Finn's right arm and the sword were lost.

After that, Finn's arm was temporarily restored to its original shape, but it was transformed into a whip-shaped arm with spikes and sharp edges.

Finn is equipped with this sword in the "Adventure Part 3" theme of the Nintendo 3DS Adventure Time game (citation needed).

Finn Sword

One time Finn entered Jake's dream from a phantom pickle from Jake's dream and woke up Jake, who fell asleep to create Prismo within the dream, was led by the phantom of Prismo to try to wake up Jake, but was stopped by the phantom Finn. Jake's dream was broken and turned the phantom into a sword by Jake's dream Finn. It is platinum in color.

The blade and hilt are one piece, pure white, and adorned with a jewel.

Stake Sword

Sword used in the Stake miniseries, for use against vampires.

It was of little use.

Later, a medium-sized tree branch was shaved off and used as a sword, but it was too difficult to lift and could not defeat the Vampire King.

Small Sword

After losing the glass sword, he used a rapier temporarily in addition to his arena sword.

Otherworldly Finns

Fionna

Fionna was created by Ice King in his imagination. She has a cat named Cake. She is a beautiful, whip-smart girl who loves Ice King for some reason.

Her weapons are either a transformed Cake or a sword with a pop-out ribbon.

Farmworld Finn

A version of Finn in the world created by Finn's wish. His right arm is a prosthetic hand. He has a dog named Jake.

He used to live with his human family, but Finn became Ice Finn when he gained the power of the ice crown he took from the corpse of Simon (the Ice King), the original Ice King from another world.

As a side note, Romi Park, who dubbed the Japanese voice, is the voice actor of Edward Elric, the main character of Fullmetal Alchemist, who has one artificial arm in common with him.

Other

Shoko

Finn's previous life. She is a black-haired girl without a right arm and has a white tiger.

At the request of the Bath Boy Gang, she went after Bubblegum's charm but lead to her downfall.

Fern

A grass Finn born when Finn Sword became the nursery of a grass-sword curse. After realizing his true identity, he calls himself Fern the Human.

Relationships

Princess Bubblegum

Although they are not connected by a "princess and knight" relationship, Finn is willing to accept requests of all sizes from her, ranging from small favors to top secret orders. At the start of the series Finn was in a one-sided love with her that he would get jealous of other characters who get along with Bubblegum.

After sometime meeting the Flame Princess, their relationship has become almost normal.

BMO

As a robot roommate in the treehouse, they fill in the time gaps in the adventurous days, although it would be fair to say this comes from them either playing around or played by Finn and Jake as they are a game console.

Ice King

Basically, they are enemies, and Finn and Jake are always relentless in their attacks on him when he commits evil acts, such as kidnapping the princess. However, they do not hate him intensely, and in some cases, they even turn to him as an "acquaintance" or listen to his problems, although they do not like to do so. On rare occasions, they fight together to defeat a common enemy.

The more reformed Ice King became over the seasons, the better their relationship became, even leaving to no fighting.

Marceline

Although she has the impression of being an evil vampire with great power, she is easygoing enough to visit him at his home and help him with his hobbies. He is usually the target of unintentional pranks due to his good-naturedness, but he rarely holds it against her.

Flame Princess

They are almost the same age in appearance. Perhaps as a reaction to being disliked by the older Princess Bubblegum, he fell in love at first sight with her passionate loveliness the moment he met her. She made a passionate attack on him, but was unable to hug her body made of flames. After a few years of steady efforts, they became friends and even kissed.

Family

Jake

Finn's older brother. A yellow dog who can transform his body. He is married and even has grandchildren, but he lives with Finn without regardless of his family. When he sees something ugly, he says, "It looks just like my mom".

Jermaine

Younger half-brother to Jake and adoptive older brother of Finn, also a yellow dog. He took over the family business and protected the remaining cursed items. Unlike Jake, he cannot transform or shape-shift and loses in fights, but he is unaware that Jake's strength is due to the monster's curse.

Joshua

Raising father, yellow dog and a terrific adventurer. He gave birth to Jake on his head because of a monster's curse. He started wearing a hat to hide the scars from that time.

Margaret

Raising mother, she was a yellow dog and worked with Joshua. Gave birth to Jermaine.

Martin

Birth father, he liked interesting things more than money and was in the business of contracting and snitching asylum. But after losing Finn, it became clear that he was imprisoned and became obsessed with money.

Minerva

Birth mother, she was a medical professional in human society. When a serious epidemic nearly killed the human race, she saved humanity by digitizing herself and becoming part of the social management module.

Warren Ampersand

A blue monster that can transform its body. It parasitized Joshua and gave birth to Jake. The monster is the source of Jake's power, also known as the "magic dog".

Storm

A life form created from Finn's DNA. It was created to contain Goliad, who reads people's minds and manipulates psychokinesis, forever.

Games

Several Adventure Time games have been released in the United States, an overseas country to Japan.

Naturally, he is the main character in all of them (Jake also appears as a sub-character).

In the crossover game Lego Dimensions, Jake is a character who can switch between multiple weapons, including a crossbow in addition to the sword mentioned above.

Incidentally, in the actual Lego Dimensions series, along with Finn, there is Jake, who transforms into a car, and an elephant tank that appeared in the second season, although it is hard to tell. There are BMO, Lumpy Space Princess, and the car Lumpy rides in in other products.
