FLCL (フリクリ), or Fooly Cooly, is an anime series that started out as an OVA by Gainax and Production I.G.

Overview

FLCL (フリクリ, Furi Kuri), also pronounced in English from the hepburn romanization as Fooly Cooly , is a total six episode long OVA were released between 2000 and 2001.

The director is Kazuya Tsurumaki, who was the assistant director of Neon Genesis Evangelion. All but a few of the insert songs and theme songs were performed by The Pillows.

It has been adapted into a manga by Hajime Ueda and a novel with complements to the main story.


On August 28, 2015, the rights to the original work, which had been held by Gainax, were transferred to the Production I.G. side (to be precise, the I.G side acquired the original rights...).


Time has since passed, and on July 3, 2017, FLCL 2 and FLCL 3 were announced. They were broadcast via Cartoon Network, but took form of theatrical releases in Japan.

On March 21, 2018, the official names of 2 and 3 were announced as FLCL Alternative and FLCL Progress.
