The Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-25 Foxbat is a Soviet Interceptor designed originally to intercept the XB-70 and the A-12. Despite being able to achieve Mach 3 speeds, doing so would cause extensive damage to the engines after one flight and thus the Foxbat's speed was limited to Mach 2.8 for normal combat.
The main operator of the Foxbat was the Soviet Air Defence Forces. The Soviet Air Forces meanwhile operated the recon and SEAD versions of the MiG-25. Iraq, India, Libya, Syria and Algeria also received the Foxbat. The MiG-25 was the only Iraq aircraft to score an air to air kill during the Gulf War when it shot down an F/A-18C from VFA-81 on the first night of the war.
