Shen Xiaoya is the first virtual idol with news reporting attributes published by mainstream media in China, and the first virtual newscaster to appear in a large-scale live news broadcast in China. Her fans are known as "Shenjianbao" (Chinese: 申煎包).

Since the project was initiated by the TV news department of Shanghai Media Group, a municipal broadcaster in Shanghai, the title is "virtual newscaster".

The live report of the 3rd China International Import Expo held in Shanghai in November 2020 was Shen Xiaoya's first show, and is sometimes described as a groundbreaking experiment not only by SMG, but also by the mass media in China.
